Kelly's Story

While serving in Santiago, Dominican Republic, one of our teams was invited into a family's home after passing by during a neighborhood visit.
Inside the home, the team met an elderly man who was facing serious health challenges and had lost mobility in his legs. They spent time listening as he shared stories from his younger years and had the opportunity to pray over him. Before the conversation ended, he asked if the team would also speak with his son, Kelly.
As they got to know Kelly, they talked about his work, listened to some of his favorite music, and simply spent time building a relationship with him. Eventually, one of the team members asked,
"How can we pray for you?"
Kelly's answer was simple but deeply revealing: he wanted change and peace in his heart.
The team shared that true peace isn't something we can achieve through our own efforts, but something we receive through a relationship with Jesus Christ. They explained the hope of the Gospel, that salvation is a gift of grace and that lasting peace is found in Him alone. The group then offered him the chance to accept this gift of grace.
Without hesitation, Kelly said yes.
The team joined hands with him as he prayed to place his faith in Jesus, asking Him to transform his life and fill his heart with the peace only He can give. Before leaving, they were able to place a Spanish Bible in the hands of Kelly and his family.
