“I’m just not sure I can do anything meaningful.”
Every year, thousands of team members travel to the Dominican Republic to serve. Some are medical experts, some are students, and some aren’t even sure that this is really for them. But the thing they all have in common is that they came to serve. At some point, they have probably had the thought, “I’m just not sure I can do anything meaningful.” It can feel intimidating to travel out of the country to a place where the need feels so great and we feel so small.
Going on short-term mission trips is more than just checking a box. Short-term mission trips are a chance to continue to build a relationship that’s been fostered for years. It is an opportunity to see God’s children, to meet them in their daily life, and love them for where they're at. It’s a chance to look inside ourselves and learn more about God’s grace in our own lives. Short-term missions can set the framework for what ministry in a team member’s life may look like. Maybe a trip to the Dominican Republic reveals to them that overseas or long-term missions are where the Lord wants them, or reveals to them that sharing the Gospel at home isn’t as daunting as they once thought.
Coming on a short-term mission trip starts with saying “yes” and trusting God to go before you. You don’t have to have it all figured out or meet a certain set of qualifications. Just come with an open heart, a willingness to serve, and an expectation that God will work in and through you! Sign up for a trip here.
