“Hope for Hungry” Meal Pack - Helping the Most Vulnerable in Haiti

Destin, Florida- On August 3, 2024, Mission of Hope hosted the 6th annual “Hope for Hungry” Meal Pack event at the Emerald Coast Convention Center. The goal was to pack 280,000 meals. That goal was exceeded, as a total of 315,000 meals were packed to send to the most vulnerable in Haiti. The meals were packed with the help of 1,100+ volunteers, ranging from 5 months to 92 years old. Thanks to everyone who participated, donated, and helped pack meals for those in need in Haiti.

In 2015, 8-year-old Bryson, inspired by his second mission trip to Haiti with Mission of Hope , felt called to help children facing severe starvation. Upon returning, he asked his parents to organize a food packing event to support Haiti’s hunger crisis . His initiative reflects a deep commitment to addressing their urgent needs for food, clothing, and education. The first Destin Meal Pack event was hosted in 2019, where 22,000 meals were packed. That number has only increased over time with the help of Bryson and the greater Destin area, and this annual event has now surpassed 1.3 million meals packed in total.

Mission of Hope Meal Packing events procure the bulk food, transport the food to the event location, provide all packing equipment, and secure shipping to Haiti. The host is responsible for raising funds, recruiting volunteers, reserving the event location, and providing tables and extension cords.

Neika's Story of Hope Neika, a student in one of the schools in our nutrition program, recently shared her story. "When my mom was pregnant with me, my dad left. My mom was always the one who took care of me. And then, in 2021, my mom died. I can still remember the day so clearly. I felt so hopeless when I lost my mom. I didn't know what would happen to me. My mom's cousin is a teacher, and she and her husband took me in to care for me. They put me in school. I thank God for them every day. Today, I am in the 6th grade! And I love school. Math is my favorite subject—it makes me feel smart when I can solve a problem. I also love getting to be with friends at school and eating lunch together. The food helps us focus, which is important—especially during exam time. One day, I dream of becomin
