Women's Empowerment | Every Woman Has A Story

We often hear from our staff in Haiti and the Dominican Republic staff about the need women have for community, support, and encouragement. Every woman has a story. For many women in Haiti and the DR, their stories are ones of struggle and unimaginable choices. Whether it be struggling to put food on the table, trying to provide an education for their children, or seeking a safe environment to live, they all have a story. We wanted to share Joselyne’s story with you and show how Women’s Empowerment was able to step into her story and help provide hope in the midst of a devastating time.

JOSELYNE'S STORY

Joselyne, a Haitian woman who lives in Jarabacoa, Dominican Republic, tragically lost her husband at the end of December. She was left a widow and unemployed with six children, all under the age of 15.

Pastor Yeudi, a local Dominican pastor who Mission of Hope serves with, learned of Joselyne’s situation and met with his church leadership to see how they could best support Joselyne and her children during this difficult time. They were able to help her pay for three months of rent and provide her with a stove and propane tank. He then reached out to Mission of Hope to assist with nutrition since it was one of their immediate needs. Women’s Empowerment was able to provide food and hygiene kits to the family of seven through Pastor Yeudi.

Another priority for the local church was to connect Joselyne and her children to a Christ-centered community. Since Joselyne’s native language is Creole, Pastor Yeudi connected her to a Haitian Pastor who had recently planted a church.

We are praising the Lord for His faithfulness and tangible care towards Joselyne and her family. Today, Joselyne is employed, her children are attending a school and receiving education, and the whole family is attending a local church where they have community and support!

This is an answer to prayer and a beautiful depiction of the local church, both Dominican and Haitian, coming together to support this family.

Women’s Empowerment exists to step into women’s stories, alongside them, to see them empowered to follow Jesus. But we can't do it alone! By partnering with Women’s Empowerment , you’ll be joining a community committed to telling others about the realities faced by women in Haiti and the Dominican Republic.

As Women’s Empowerment continues to grow in both Haiti and the Dominican Republic, our desire is to continue to partner alongside the local church in support of women, girls, and their families. Some of the ways we will see this happen are through the expansion of our Damas Juntas (Women Together) groups in the DR and our Klèb Manman (Mom’s Club) groups in Haiti, launching our Girls’ Empowerment program in the DR, and through increased distribution of Women and Infant Care kits to help support women and their families in times of need.

Would you prayerfully consider giving towards Women’s Empowerment in Haiti and the Dominican Republic? You’ll be supporting women and girls through our programs that help to meet their physical needs, encourage them, and help them understand their worth found in Jesus Christ.

We are incredibly grateful for your support as we aim to see every woman be empowered to follow Jesus, and through His power, change her story from brokenness to restoration and from shame to redemption.

As we reflect on 2025, we are grateful for the ways God moved through faithful partners and local communities to bring nourishment, hope, and lasting transformation. Through Hope at the Table and other core initiatives, children and families facing hunger, poverty, and instability experienced tangible care and renewed hope. At a time when 5.7 million people are struggling daily to feed themselves and their loved ones, generosity made a measurable difference. With just 11 cents providing one meal, every dollar given helped deliver nine meals to families in need—filling empty plates with food and reminding communities they are not forgotten. Throughout the year, the impact extended far beyond meals. In 2025, 787 individuals professed their faith, 131 communities were served, and 278 pastors and leaders were trained to continue shepherding their people with wisdom and care. Discipleship programs equipped 2,645 women to grow in faith and leadership, while education programs served 11,000 students, investing in the next generation. Medical teams provided care to 7,945 individuals, and 24.6 million meals were distributed overall, including daily feeding programs that supported 101,356 children. Together, we have seen emptiness replaced with provision, despair met with joy, and hunger answered with hope. This work reflects the heart of Matthew 25:35: “For I was hungry and you gave me something to eat, I was thirsty and you gave me something to drink, I was a stranger and you invited me in.” As we look ahead, we remain committed to serving alongside local churches and communities, trusting that generosity—rooted in love—will continue to change stories and lives in the year to come..

When *María watched her three children put on their new school uniforms and shoes, she called it a blessing from God. For weeks, the weight of uncertainty had pressed on her heart, she longed to send her children to school, but the cost felt far beyond her reach. What María received was more than a one-time gift. It was a reminder that she was seen, known, and not alone. Through one of our community partnerships, a local church—rooted in her neighborhood and moved by compassion—recognized the need and responded with dignity, love, and care. Made possible by faithful church partners and God’s provision, hope met her family right where they were. Today, Mission of Hope partners with 13 local churches across the Dominican Republic, equipping them to meet urgent needs while sharing the hope of the gospel. Through these partnerships, churches provide food, medical care, children’s programming, and women’s discipleship—walking hand in hand with families long after the moment of need, and helping them step into a future filled with hope. In the most recent program update: 393+ Bibles were distributed 109+ individuals accepted Christ 500+ people were reached through local churches 12 Damas Juntas women’s groups continued meeting and growing together These partnerships also enable churches to care for the whole person, supporting families during medical emergencies, providing meals for children, and creating spaces for prayer, discipleship, and evangelism. María’s children are now attending school with confidence, and she is supported by her local church. Praise be to God! *name changed for privacy
