Hope for Her May 2024 Highlights

WE hosted another incredible Hope for Her this month in the Dominican Republic with 38 North American women from all over the United States. This was our second time hosting for an entire week, and it was full of ministry involving local church leaders, missionaries from other organizations, and several communities within the Jarabacoa and Santiago areas. One of the many highlights included Women's Day, with 192 women and 35 children in attendance, and our very first Girls' Day, where 122 girls from kindergarten to 6th grade got to make crafts, plant a mustard tree, and hear about how a little bit of faith, even as small as a mustard seed, has surprising purpose and potential.

A couple of the ladies who joined us had this to share about their week:

On May 1st, we took a small but mighty team of seven to the Dominican Republic for Hope For Her. Our group joined other women from Colorado, Texas, and Tennessee to support Women's Empowerment by praying with and ministering to the women on the island of Hispaniola.

Our hearts were simultaneously broken and inspired. We served women from across the island on Woman's Day and heard three different languages - Spanish, Creole, and English - worshiping the Lord together. It was a glimpse of Heaven. The Lord had something very specific for each of us who participated in Hope for Her, but we all came back encouraged by how the love of Christ is changing the Dominican Republic and Haiti. Because of our time alongside the Women’s Empowerment team, we are more passionate about giving our yes to the Lord so that every man, woman, and child will come to know Him.

I knew that taking a group of women from my church to Hope for Her was an easy "yes" because of our past amazing experiences with Mission of Hope. But I didn't know that the trip was going to be one of the most impactful things our ladies had ever experienced in their whole lives. From the big picture glimpses of MOH's work with marginalized women to the kingdom-minded conversations with local leadership to the thoughtful details that staff put into place for our team - it all added up to a week filled with vision of how God loves His Haitian, Dominican, and North American daughters. We asked God to teach us things on this trip that we couldn't learn any other way, so let me tell you what He taught some of my teammates:

  • "How we can communicate without using words"
  • "We all have the same needs to be heard, seen, and loved, and we want the same things for our families"
  • "He is our hope, and we are to be BOLD in sharing His love”
  • "I am now trusting God with every part of my life, no longer timid about sharing my faith with anyone."

The Jarabacoa campus created a beautiful space to listen to each other and the Lord. The variety of experiences throughout the week led our team to come back on fire for our personal mission fields and with a resolute spark for the places and people we saw with our own eyes. We can't wait for next year!

Francenia’s Story: A Story of Resilience and Faith Imagine fleeing your home country—not because you wanted to, but because you felt that you had no choice. This was Francenia’s* reality three years ago. A mother from Cabaret, Haiti, Francenia made the heartbreaking decision to leave everything she knew behind. Her home. Her community. Her roots. Gang violence had made staying impossible. She crossed into the Dominican Republic, uncertain of what the future held, but determined to protect her family. Francenia’s story is one of resilience and faith. She recalls the days when her children attended school at the Mission of Hope campus in Titanyen, Haiti, and the times she found care and compassion at our clinic there, too. Those moments brought hope and stability during difficult times. Yet,

Neika's Story of Hope Neika, a student in one of the schools in our nutrition program, recently shared her story. "When my mom was pregnant with me, my dad left. My mom was always the one who took care of me. And then, in 2021, my mom died. I can still remember the day so clearly. I felt so hopeless when I lost my mom. I didn't know what would happen to me. My mom's cousin is a teacher, and she and her husband took me in to care for me. They put me in school. I thank God for them every day. Today, I am in the 6th grade! And I love school. Math is my favorite subject—it makes me feel smart when I can solve a problem. I also love getting to be with friends at school and eating lunch together. The food helps us focus, which is important—especially during exam time. One day, I dream of becomin

Reflecting on 2024: A Year of Hope, Impact, and Transformation Happy New Year! We hope you had a restful and wonderful time with your loved ones. In 2024, God has brought hope to those with nowhere else to turn, and your generosity has made this possible. Thank you for meeting the needs of people you may never meet in person yet whose lives have been transformed because of your support. Through your faithful generosity, you have demonstrated how Jesus is always near to the hurting and broken. 20.5 million meals were delivered across the island, and we saw incredible life change—from how God protected our staff in Haiti, deliverance with food security, and bringing hope to the most vulnerable.
