Family Assistance Program | Dominican Republic

The Family Assistance Program in the Dominican Republic started as an effort to get food to people who were in dire need of groceries for their families. The pandemic quickly highlighted the fragility of food sources for many, and that was an immediate need Mission of Hope could help meet. With experience from our Nutrition Program in Haiti, we knew just how critical a healthy meal is for a child, and this program opened up the opportunity to serve families who were desperate to provide for their kids. The program is now led by Kiki, one of our staff members who is originally from Haiti. He works with the pastors in the communities to facilitate and distribute the grocery bags to those in greatest need.

So many of you have helped make the program possible, from generous donations, support of our local leaders who facilitate the program, and even packing bags of groceries in the Dominican Republic while on a HopeGo trip. It’s a joy to share that new communities are being served, pastors are joining together and even serving each other’s churches and communities, and needs are being met.

So far in 2023, you have helped make this possible:

  • 2,620 individuals served
  • 655 families
  • 24 ministry opportunities with pastors
  • 27 local volunteers + support from many HopeGo teams

From Haiti to the Dominican Republic, you are helping people who are hungry have a healthy meal. It’s truly a team effort, and there are people today who have a meal on their table because of your support. Thank you!

Francenia’s Story: A Story of Resilience and Faith Imagine fleeing your home country—not because you wanted to, but because you felt that you had no choice. This was Francenia’s* reality three years ago. A mother from Cabaret, Haiti, Francenia made the heartbreaking decision to leave everything she knew behind. Her home. Her community. Her roots. Francenia’s story is one of resilience and faith. She recalls the days when her children attended school at the Mission of Hope campus in Titanyen, Haiti, and the times she found care and compassion at our clinic there, too. Those moments brought hope and stability during difficult times. Yet,

Neika's Story of Hope Neika, a student in one of the schools in our nutrition program, recently shared her story. "When my mom was pregnant with me, my dad left. My mom was always the one who took care of me. And then, in 2021, my mom died. I can still remember the day so clearly. I felt so hopeless when I lost my mom. I didn't know what would happen to me. My mom's cousin is a teacher, and she and her husband took me in to care for me. They put me in school. I thank God for them every day. Today, I am in the 6th grade! And I love school. Math is my favorite subject—it makes me feel smart when I can solve a problem. I also love getting to be with friends at school and eating lunch together. The food helps us focus, which is important—especially during exam time. One day, I dream of becomin
