HAITI | BACK-TO-SCHOOL

back to school photo of kids in haiti

It’s back-to-school season! The staff in Haiti have worked all summer navigating the challenges of starting the school year, and we are so grateful that most of our schools and partner schools are back open. School provides a place for kids to grow, interact with friends, dream, receive a meal, learn about the Lord, play sports, and have fun. Simply put? School provides a place for kids in Haiti to simply be kids.

Would you please pray for students, teachers, and administrators as they begin a new school year? Pray for God’s hand to cover them with safety and provision every day. Pray for God to change the hearts of people continuing to cause chaos in the country. Pray for Godly leadership to rise up and for this generation of students to believe in a better way and a better future for Haiti.

DOMINICAN REPUBLIC | MENTAL HEALTH IN MINISTRY

dominican republic pastors training mental health

The recent pastor training in the Dominican Republic included one of the most honest and vulnerable conversations among the attending pastors. The topic was the subject of mental health, a conversation that unveiled their own personal challenges while navigating the intricate role of leadership and sharing the burdens of their communities. The depth of the relationships between the men and women in the room has continued to grow through the years, which provided a time for honest and real conversations.

This training was not just a chance occurrence; rather, it was a direct response to the pastors' expressed desires. They want to have a Biblical framework as they engage the topics they encounter regarding mental health. God’s heart and compassion towards His people were evident, and the responsibility with which the pastors take their roles was encouraging. Scripture was not merely studied but lived and shared, fostering a sense of unity and belonging.

We are so thankful for the opportunity to walk alongside these pastors, open Scripture to encourage one another, and leave the training feeling more known and unified. God is doing a beautiful work in the hearts of men, women, and children on the island of Hispaniola.

Francenia’s Story: A Story of Resilience and Faith Imagine fleeing your home country—not because you wanted to, but because you felt that you had no choice. This was Francenia’s* reality three years ago. A mother from Cabaret, Haiti, Francenia made the heartbreaking decision to leave everything she knew behind. Her home. Her community. Her roots. Gang violence had made staying impossible. She crossed into the Dominican Republic, uncertain of what the future held, but determined to protect her family. Francenia’s story is one of resilience and faith. She recalls the days when her children attended school at the Mission of Hope campus in Titanyen, Haiti, and the times she found care and compassion at our clinic there, too. Those moments brought hope and stability during difficult times. Yet,

Neika's Story of Hope Neika, a student in one of the schools in our nutrition program, recently shared her story. "When my mom was pregnant with me, my dad left. My mom was always the one who took care of me. And then, in 2021, my mom died. I can still remember the day so clearly. I felt so hopeless when I lost my mom. I didn't know what would happen to me. My mom's cousin is a teacher, and she and her husband took me in to care for me. They put me in school. I thank God for them every day. Today, I am in the 6th grade! And I love school. Math is my favorite subject—it makes me feel smart when I can solve a problem. I also love getting to be with friends at school and eating lunch together. The food helps us focus, which is important—especially during exam time. One day, I dream of becomin
