A Miracle in the Midst of Being Kidnapped

In the mountains of Haiti, nestled amongst a small farming village and vibrant hills, a remarkable story of faith and transformation unfolded, a testament to the power of prayer.
Pierre*, a man known for his skepticism, lived a life untouched by faith, despite his wife's devout Christian beliefs. While she attended church fervently, praying for her husband's salvation, Pierre remained indifferent, his heart closed to the message of Christ.
Tragedy struck when Pierre was kidnapped by local gangs, notorious for their ruthlessness. Transported to an unknown location and held captive in a dim, crowded room, Pierre faced a grim reality. Among the hostages, he was singled out for a fate worse than ransom - an ominous order from a gang member who recognized him from his village.
In that moment of despair, Pierre’s thoughts turned unexpectedly to the words his wife often recited from Psalm 23, "The Lord is my shepherd..." These words, once mere echoes in his home, now resonated deeply in his heart. Amidst the rising chaos, a prayer formed silently on his lips, a plea for deliverance and a promise of devotion if he were to be freed.
Miraculously, against all odds and gang customs, Pierre’s name was called for release. This inexplicable act, defying the gang's ruthless norms, left everyone in awe.
Pierre saw it as nothing short of divine intervention, a direct answer to his prayer.
Upon his return to his village, a changed man, he sought out the Mission of Hope village champion. There, under the same skies where his wife had prayed relentlessly, Pierre gave his life to Christ. His transformation was a powerful testimony to the community, a living embodiment of faith's victory over darkness.

This story is not just Pierre's, but it’s a story of hope and the miraculous power of prayer. It reminds us that even in the moments that seem the most bleak, the hope of Christ can shine a light, guiding the lost and hurting to a place of rescue.

We share this story to remind you of the impact your generosity and prayers have on our friends across the island, both in Haiti and the Dominican Republic. Neika's Story of Hope Neika, a student in one of the schools in our nutrition program, recently shared her story. "When my mom was pregnant with me, my dad left. My mom was always the one who took care of me. And then, in 2021, my mom died. I can still remember the day so clearly. I felt so hopeless when I lost my mom. I didn't know what would happen to me. My mom's cousin is a teacher, and she and her husband took me in to care for me. They put me in school. I thank God for them every day. Today, I am in the 6th grade! And I love school. Math is my favorite subject—it makes me feel smart when I can solve a problem. I also love getting to be with friends at school and eating lunch together. The food helps us focus, which is important—especially during exam time. One day, I dream of becomin
